African History and Biographies

This section of the magazine covers what we consider major aspects of African History, namely:

Why we think these aspects of African History are important:

  • Pan Africanism and Black Consciousness –These ideologies are closest to our hearts as they cover two vital ingredients for the emancipation of a people: Unity and Self-love.  Thus no other patriot defines Black Consciousness (Click Here for the Full Definition) like late Bantu Steve Biko:
    • Being black is not a matter of pigmentation – being black is a reflection of a mental attitude.
    • Merely by describing yourself as black you have started on a road towards emancipation, you have committed yourself to fight against all forces that seek to use your blackness as a stamp that marks you out as a subservient being
  • Africa in Antiquity : We know that Africans have made an invaluable contribution to the advancement of the Human Family and strongly believe this information should be common knowledge especially amongst Africans
  • African Global Presence: The fact that remnants (of antiquity) of African presence and civilizations can be found in all the major continents of the World is a clear indicator that Africans are indeed a great people and knowledge of this greatness should be common knowledge amongst Africans
  • The African Holocaust: Preeminent scholar and historian Dr. John Henrik Clarke places the toll of African lives lost during the slave trade or the African Holocaust at approximately 150 million. It is in the interest of Africans that we learn and never forget how, why and by whom this Holocaust was inflicted. This knowledge is invaluable for the mental emancipation of African people
  • Biographies of influential Africans: They World says you can’t! But your history says you can! Great personal achievements by Africans of past and present is a constant reminder of our potential as a people more especially to the African Youth
  • Significant but random events that have occurred in African history: Since it is highly unlikely that we can cover every single aspect of African history we felt this section was important in that we could include significant events that don’t necessarily fall under the abovementioned categories
