Vintage queen: an interview with Tsutsu of Wonderment Garments
Vintage queen: an interview with Tsutsu of Wonderment Garments One autumn Sunday afternoon in a quest to rub shoulders with an enigmatic soul I commuted from my hood to Tembisa to go lure a lioness from her den. My mission: to touch base with Dieketseng “Tsutsu” Magabane and learn more about this creative diva and where she gets her unique fashion sense and skill for styling.

BAM! Night with Capital Arts Revolution and Art Kitchen
BAM! Night with Capital Arts Revolution and Art Kitchen This was on a Friday on the 23rd of March at an all-access, free music gig in the “Cap City”. In all, it was an eclectic session of live-music, poetry and freshly-squeezed hip hop (much props to the GYG who rocked it!). Visual art and crafts had their own stage as well from sublime sketches of an Eye in which the pupil serves as a travel map of an imaginary condition to simple stuff like tie-die vests and vintage earrings the kind that was dug out from someone’s granny’s kist.

Lifestyle Series Makeover 2
Lifestyle Series Makeover 2 The MIND is a battleground. Faith or fear, confidence or insecurity, creativity or insanity all arise from this part of our DNA. The mind is made up of a matrix of interconnectivity which we know simply as thought, which is essentially the product that comes from using our brains – from thinking!

Lifestyle Makeover Series I
Lifestyle Makeover Series I Tips for a healthy heart, body and soul.

Lifestyle is directly congruent to your body and how far it can last you in life. You may be 22 however your body age may be 40 due to diet, lifestyle and environment. Conversely, one can manage their bodies so well that their bodies could confuse time i.e. a 50 year old can have a body that reads biologically as a 35 year old.

FISHERMEN IN FASHION – Interview with H2S
FISHERMEN IN FASHION - Interview with H2S I was somewhat apprehensive as I prepared for my interview with the guys of h2s as my whole angle was not to talk fashion but to get closer to the real Herman Modise Pelo who is the visionary behind the business. I have known this brother for about two years and always found him to be too private for comfort, too mysterious.

The Many Faces of African identity
The Many Faces of African identity I thought that I was fully Tswana for a great portion of my childhood, only to discover to my detriment that I had traces of Zambian blood flowing in my veins.

Foreign blood. Dreaded blood. Immediately insecurity came to roost in me and ever since I’ve never quite felt comfortable in my own skin.

Genesis into an Imaginative Mind – Interview with Vestido Rose
Genesis into an Imaginative Mind - Interview with Vestido Rose Beatrice Banda is a beautiful African sistah from Pretoria. She is also a budding fashion designer on the move. Her story about how she fell in love with fashion is as queer as is intriguing.

I was there to document her testimonial during a laid-back afternoon at Africafe Sunnyside where she and I met for a brief tete-a-tete over a vegetarian tramezzini and my plate of chicken wings and fries.

A Letter for My Friend
A Letter for My Friend I challenged you to write yourself a love letter after I saw one of your F.B status updates where you described in your own words how pain was ravaging your soul. I understand heart break really, really well… I have been heartbroken a few times.

In your letter you wrote of tears and silent pain and described your brokenness with such beauty it was a mystery that you could write so liberally while your heart had been choked.

The many ideas of beauty
ideas of beauty

The word B.E.A.U.T.Y is a word burdened with a myriad of connotations. In fact the demands of the word burden us as well.

The vain task of deciding what is beautiful and what is not in shopping for clothes for example always has one in a daze.
