On the 9th of June 2020, two local artists were forcefully removed from their place of residence at a Tshwane City owned space called The Old Fire station. The space, primarily used as an arts studio and events space also consists of four dedicated rooms that are used by mainly artists and creatives as a place of residence.
The forced eviction occurred despite the evictors having no ownership of the residential rooms and the Government’s decision to prohibit the eviction of any tenants throughout the national lockdown.
The evictees have commissioned a legal reaction to the incident and hope for justice to be served.
