Chaotic CBD is the latest exhibition by Zolile Phetshane and serves as a sneak preview to his solo exhibitions, Come Get Your Gold which will open in Spring 2022 in Johannesburg and Cape Town.
The exhibition deals with the mass migration to metropoles in South Africa in search of a better life and financial freedom. Phetshane dissects the intricate eco-systems within these spaces where it is easy to lose your way and yourself in the pursuit for money. The vibrant array of characters from all over the continent and country found in the CBD comes to life in Phetshane’s imagery and colour palette, while sending out a strong political message to governments criticising their faulty socio-economic systems. Chaotic CBD is a glimpse into this world which will be explored in full with both his solo exhibitions next year
