Malwande Ngcingi

My name is Malwande Ngcingi, I was born on the 7th of January 1992 in Eastern Cape and that is where I studied my primary until I was ten years old. In 2003 when I was eleven years old I permanently moved to Gauteng province and this is where I finished off primary years. I started taking art seriously in 2006 when I started my secondary years at Umqhele comprehensive school in Ivory Park, Midrand. From 2006 to 2008 I was practicing art on my own. In April of 2009 to November of the same year I attended Saturday art classes at Johannesburg art Gallery. It was from this gallery where I experienced with different Medias. After I matriculated in 2010 I took a gap year to focus on my art and to do research about art schools. In 2012 I enrolled with Tshwane University of technology to study fine arts. I am in my 3rd year now and I have been in few exhibitions since 2012.

My work is inspired by my thoughts, surrounding and my curiosity about finding truth about the world. I place objects and scenes that don’t go along with each other and this is how I tend question religion, social issues and politics that are affecting people . Using different mediums and techniques I evaluate these issues and depict them in a simple yet metaphoric way , this helps me to look carefully in the lives we living and how ordinary people suffer from these harsh realities.
