The very first consciousness.co.za Magazine Lounge Session:
The very first consciousness.co.za Lounge Session was held on the 29th of October at Africafè (DTI campus) in Sunnyside, Tshwane. The main artist for this lounge session was “THE FRIDGE” a neo – jazz band with influences from soul, rock and African folk, the band is “Sophisticatedly Easy” in its look and sound (their unconventional approach to the iconic genre of jazz is both risky and refreshing, pushing the envelope and fusing together jazz, African folk and soul sounds). The supporting artists were an awe-inspiring mix of poets (open mic poetry), hip hop (A Huge Impakt and The Optophones) and acoustic bands (Travellin Blak, Blak Hippie & The Fifets and Street Harmony). The event commenced from 6pm to 1am in the morning. Our venue (Africafè) being a restaurant provided an enclosed environment.
The entertainment ‘party’ element of the consciousness.co.za Lounge Sessions is crucial because we want to promote that life is celebration even in the backdrop of our disparate and unjust society. We hope to take these sessions to areas where music and consciousness is lacking and where the young people need upliftment.
