The 26year old Polokwane based emcee/ poet/ writer and LLB graduate started writing raps around 1998. Her very first performance was in 2000 at sum “Battle of Rappers” contest held at Water World (Bulawayo.) At that time she was a member of a group that went by the name Black Charm. The group comprised of herself as the rapper of the duo, and her girl Busi as the songstress of the group.
In 2005, under the influence of the likes of Tumi and the Volume and Saul Williams, Sanity started doing poetry and has not looked back ever since. Sanity has human rights at heart and in her works she tackles various socio political issues. Sanity performs in her own capacity as a solo artist and again as a member of the band KURUNGA, a Polokwane based band that in 2009 won the “So you think you are a band” competition and a month earlier took second place in the “battle of the band’s” competitions, both competitions held in Polokwane. As a solo artist Sanity has curtain raised for Toni Blackman, performed at various functions such as the University of Limpopo’s International Students’ Functions, the university’s Heritage Festival (Herifest), the Intwasa Festival, the Poetic Brush and in 2007 her piece “Survival Techniques” made her a finalist in the SABC2 Lentswe Poetry Project under the HIV/ AIDS Category.
Sanity has featured on various mix tapes such as the Black Market’s PLK hiphop mix-tape and the Face the Music- Hiphop Timeless Mix-tape. She is currently in the studio working on an all female hip-hop & poetry mix-tape which will feature, apart from herself, a number of fine female emcees and poets… watch the space.
In April Sanity will be one of the artists taking part in the Poetic Brush (a visual arts emphasis), where a number of visual artists will be portraying on canvas the different emotions expressed by performer on stage. To event will be held in Bulawayo (Zimbabwe) at the Bulawayo Theatre on the 10th of April 2010. To catch Sanity on the regular, come through to the poetry and sound sessions hosted by Black Market. The sessions are held at the Black Market Concept Store at nr 50 bodenstein street, Polokwane every Second and last weekend of the month (Xtreme Sanity is a regular).
